Latest Tottenham Transfer News: Leicester City Nears Deal for Tottenham’s Harry Winks
Leicester City is on the verge of securing the services of Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Harry Winks. The 25-year-old, whose contract expires next summer, has been given the green light to leave Spurs during the current transfer window. While other English clubs and European sides have shown interest in Winks, Leicester appears to be leading the race for his signature.
Winks is reportedly drawn to the project and prospects offered by the King Power Stadium, as well as the opportunity to join a club that has previously expressed interest in him. It is worth noting that negotiations between Leicester and Tottenham are also underway for a separate deal involving James Maddison, with the player set to undergo a medical examination at Tottenham ahead of a proposed move worth £40 million plus add-ons.
A product of Tottenham’s youth system, Winks played a significant role under former manager Mauricio Pochettino and was a member of the squad that reached the 2018-19 Champions League final. Winks signed a new five-year contract in 2019 but spent the previous season on loan at Serie A club Sampdoria, making 20 appearances as they were relegated to Serie B.
In addition to pursuing Winks, Leicester is also engaged in discussions with Wolverhampton Wanderers over the potential signing of defender Conor Coady. Despite having a bid rejected on Tuesday for the England international, negotiations continue as Leicester aims to bolster their squad for the upcoming season.
