Leicester City news today
Leicester parted company with Brendan Rodgers following Saturday’s last-minute 2-1 defeat at Crystal Palace.
The Foxes have slipped into the relegation zone in 19th position and have taken action with 10 games left in the season to keep their Premier League status.
Leicester are presently under the supervision of first-team coach Adam Sadler and goalkeeping coach Mike Stowell, who are in charge of training and preparing the team for games.
With the pressure mounting ahead of their last ten games, here are some possible successors to Rodgers at King Power Stadium.
Rafael Benitez
Benitez’s stock has dropped in recent years, as evidenced by his dismissal as Everton manager in January 2022 after a disastrous spell. He has managed Liverpool, Chelsea, and Newcastle and has a wealth of Premier League experience, which could make him one of Leicester’s safer choices.
Thomas Frank
Brentford manager Frank was linked with the Leicester job early this season, and his name appears to be coming up again. Frank and his Bees team have continued to impress in their second season in the Premier League, presently sitting seventh in the table. However, the Foxes’ precarious situation in comparison to Brentford’s may deter the Dane from making a switch.
Ange Postecoglou
Postecoglou has been a marvel since taking over as Celtic manager, with the Hoops presently leading the Scottish Premiership table by nine points over rivals Rangers. The Australian has built a free-scoring squad that has scored 95 goals in 30 games and has previously piqued the interest of Premier League clubs. While a move to England’s top flight would provide Postecoglou with an opportunity to put his skills to the test, the prospect of achieving a treble at Celtic would likely outweigh the possibility of relegation at Leicester.
Ralph Hasenhuttl
Hasenhuttl has not returned to management since being fired as Southampton manager last year, but the newest vacancy at Leicester may tempt him. Despite a run of poor results, the Austrian’s blueprint shone at times with Southampton, and if given the opportunity at Leicester, he could attempt to apply his style to greater effect.
Mauricio Pochettino
Pochettino has a lot of Premier League expertise from spells at Southampton and Tottenham, but has not been in charge since leaving PSG last summer. He is the more valuable name on the shortlist and would be a major coup for Leicester if a deal could be arranged for him. Pochettino, on the other hand, has been connected with a return to Spurs in recent weeks following Antonio Conte’s departure.
Marcelo Bielsa
Bielsa has become associated with his unrelenting and entertaining style of football, and he would provide a boost to Leicester in the future. The Argentinian is still talked about by former Leeds fans, and his infectious attitude has proven to be successful. However, Bielsa was pursued by Everton earlier this season and turned down a move to the Toffees, raising questions about his situation in relation to the Leicester vacancy.
