Leicester City vs Chelsea Review
Enzo Fernández played a key role in both goals during Chelsea’s 2-1 victory over Leicester City in the Premier League, marking their seventh consecutive unbeaten match against Leicester. Enzo Maresca made his first return to the King Power Stadium since leading Leicester to the Premier League, and the match began smoothly as the home team fell back to try to limit Chelsea’s offensive threat. However, this strategy allowed Chelsea to dominate possession, and the situation worsened for Leicester when Harry Winks was injured, leading to Nicolas Jackson scoring the first goal in the 15th minute. Jackson outmaneuvered Wout Faes, received a pass from Fernández, and finished with precision.
The Foxes continued to struggle to keep pace, leading to frustration as Wilfred Ndidi, Boubakary Soumaré, and Oliver Skipp received yellow cards for hard tackles on Cole Palmer, João Félix, and Fernández, all within a span of nine minutes. Despite this, they were still only down by one goal, with Noni Madueke seeing one of his shots deflected wide by Mads Hermansen and another goal ruled out due to Marc Cucurella being offside in the buildup.
Madueke missed another chance before halftime, and after the break, he had a forgettable moment when Jackson’s shot was deflected towards Palmer, who seemed set to score until his shot hit the winger on the goal line. In an attempt to change the game, Steve Cooper brought on Stephy Mavididi and Jordan Ayew, but just four minutes later, his team conceded a second goal. Hermansen’s save from Jackson’s header allowed the ball to bounce favorably for Fernández, who headed it in.
The home team was awarded a late penalty after Bobby De Cordova-Reid was fouled by Roméo Lavia, enabling Ayew to score from the penalty spot, even though Sánchez managed to touch the ball. This incident may have prevented Chelsea from keeping a clean sheet, but there was no time left for the Blues to lose their victory after having drawn their last two Premier League matches. This loss marked Leicester’s third defeat in their last four league games.
