The information revealed by El Periodico, in which talks between the old Barcelona board, commanded by Josep Maria Bartomeu, are leaked, will not make Lionel Messi very happy.
Lionel Messi, Gerard Pique, and Sergio Busquets are among the big-name players in the locker room who were attacked and insulted by the board.
The most critical of all the interventions was made by Roman Gomez Ponti, who was then the head of Barcelona’s legal services, in chats in WhatsApp groups to which the outlet had access.
Josep Maria Bartomeu, the former president of the Azulgrana club, Oscar Grau, the club’s CEO, executives Jordi Moix, Oriol Tomaa, and David Bellver, financial director Pancho Schroder, and head of strategy and innovation Javier Sobrino were also present during some of these discussions.
Concerning Lionel Messi, a WhatsApp conversation between Roman Gomez Ponti, then head of Barcelona’s legal services, with Bartomeu was revealed:

“Barto, really, you can’t be such a good person with this sewer rat,” he wrote. “The club has given him everything and he has dedicated himself to establish a dictatorship of signings, transfers, renewals, sponsors just for him.”
Gomez Ponti said about; Messi harmed the club “I will never be able to do it but to the figures of his contract we should add Pinto, the renewal of Luis Suarez, and that of Jordi Alba, or the renewal commission of Ansu Fati”.
The former board member further stated regarding Lionel Messi: “And above all, the accumulation of blackmail and disrespect that the club and those of us who work here have suffered from this hormonal midget who owes Barcelona his life… ah! But when things go wrong (pandemic) you receive the famous WhatsApp: ‘presi, lower the salary of the others, but don’t touch me and Luis’. I hope he leaves amidst the indifference of the people, which is the worst thing that can happen to him.”
Without holding back, Gomez Ponti also unabashedly attacked other club luminaries like Pique and Busquets.
