Lionel Scaloni on Messi rumors to Saudi Arabia: “Let him go where he feels comfortable”

Lionel Scaloni, the World Cup-winning coach of Argentina, stated that he does not care where Lionel Messi plays club football as long as he is at ease and content.

The recent week has seen a lot of conjecture surrounding Messi’s future at Paris Saint-Germain after the Qatari-owned team suspended him for travelling to Saudi Arabia and skipping a training session.

The move to a Saudi club was reportedly “done deal” on Tuesday, according to French media, which also stated that the Argentina captain was finalising the specifics of his contract before signing it. However, Messi’s father denied that any deal had been struck and stated that no decisions would be made until the current season was over.

“Let him go to where he will feel comfortable with his teammates and the club’s fans,” Scaloni told Qatar’s Al-Kass channel.

“The matter does not affect us as a national team as long as he’s happy when he joins us and we need him to be happy.”

After last week’s apology to PSG and his teammates, Messi started working out again on Monday. A source close to Messi told Reuters that the World Cup winner has received a formal offer to play for the Saudi side Al-Hilal next season, with a contract extension at PSG being ruled out.

The oil-rich country named Messi, who will turn 36 in one month, as a tourist ambassador last year, and in May 2022, he travelled to Jeddah. In January, he made a comeback to compete in a friendly game for PSG against a Saudi All Stars squad that included Cristiano Ronaldo, Messi’s competition for the greatest player of his generation.
