Mount’s contract has reached its last 18 months, and 90min recently reported that negotiations for an extension have stalled because the academy graduate is not yet satisfied with the conditions Chelsea’s new management has offered.
The majority of the Premier League’s top teams are monitoring the situation. 90min claims that Liverpool are ready to profit from the mounting ambiguity if no important developments occur before the summer.
With Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain due to leave on free transfers and the futures of several more senior players in doubt, the Reds are getting ready to restructure their midfield, and Mount has been hailed as the perfect addition to reinvigorate the Liverpool team.
However, reports claim that Liverpool’s pursuit of the Bellingham does not affect their interest in Mount, who is seen at Anfield as a potential complement to the 19-year-old along with Matheus Nunes of Wolves.
Chelsea will face a huge dilemma this summer as Mount enters the final year of his current contract. Officials still believe they can keep the academy graduate at Stamford Bridge, but they are aware that if he doesn’t sign new contracts, a sale may be in the works.
While 90min reported that Mount would love to stay at Chelsea as things are, Liverpool would be interested in signing him at that moment.
After a season of enormous change on and off the field, Mount is looking for a contract that would reflect his status as a regular starter for both club and country. He is also looking for assurances about Chelsea’s long-term direction.
Chelsea is still optimistic that they can persuade Mount to sign a new contract, and crucially, discussions with the 24-year-old have not yet been officially terminated. Nevertheless, those in power at Stamford Bridge are well aware of the possibility of losing a homegrown player to a significant rival.
