Manchester City vs Leicester City Review
Manchester City secured their 13th consecutive Premier League victory against newly-promoted teams by defeating Leicester City 2-0 at the Etihad Stadium, moving them into the top four. City started strong, taking the lead within just two minutes. Jérémy Doku intercepted the ball in midfield and passed it to Savinho, who delivered a cross for Jack Grealish to skillfully finish into the bottom corner, marking his first Premier League goal since December 2023. Leicester, who only had one attempt throughout the match, nearly equalized when Bilal El Khannouss shot just wide from the edge of the box.
That missed opportunity proved to be expensive, as the home team extended their lead after half an hour. Omar Marmoush, filling in for the injured Erling Haaland, took advantage of some poor goalkeeping from Mads Hermansen, striking the ball off the crossbar and into an empty net, marking the Egyptian’s fifth first-half league goal since his transfer from Frankfurt.
Hermansen redeemed himself by saving Savinho’s close-range attempt, keeping the score at just two goals as they headed into the second half. However, City remained energized and were eager to score a third goal to secure the win. Marmoush nearly added to his tally just before the hour mark, but after a nice passing sequence, he shot the ball over the bar from inside the area. The home team continued to control possession, but they struggled to create clear chances in the second half, managing only one shot on target.
Ultimately, the three points were the only thing that counted as Pep Guardiola’s team secured their first league victory in three matches and celebrated the return of Oscar Bobb from a lengthy injury. On the other hand, Leicester became just the fourth team to suffer seven consecutive losses in the English top division without scoring, a streak that has left them firmly in the relegation zone.
