Manchester City vs Sunderland Review
Manchester City secured their third victory in a week with an impressive 3-0 win over Sunderland at the Etihad Stadium, where they have now triumphed in 12 of their last 13 Premier League matches, including seven consecutive wins. Pep Guardiola’s squad dominated the early stages of the match. However, they found it difficult to break through Sunderland’s solid defensive line. Rayan Cherki nearly set up the current Premier League top scorer Erling Haaland with a cross across the goal, but unusually, the Norwegian striker failed to connect with the ball.

City kept pressing and found themselves two goals ahead after scoring twice within four minutes shortly after the 30-minute mark. First, Rúben Dias unleashed a powerful shot from 30 yards, sending a spectacular strike into the top corner. The home crowd was still absorbing that impressive goal from the Portuguese defender when his teammate, Joško Gvardiol, increased the lead by outjumping Sunderland’s defense to head in a powerful goal from Phil Foden’s corner.

Régis Le Bris’ team finally started to get into the game in the second half and came close twice to reducing the deficit. First, Wilson Isidor took the ball from Dias but before he could shoot, Gianluigi Donnarumma quickly came off his line to block the Sunderland striker. Then, Granit Xhaka was denied by the goalpost as the visitors pushed hard for a goal. Despite Sunderland’s determination and efforts to get back into the match, their hopes were ended in the 65th minute by the in-form Foden. However, Cherki deserved full credit for delivering a brilliant rabona cross that allowed the Englishman to score with a header.

City comfortably controlled the final 15 minutes and appeared to be back to their dominant form. Nevertheless, they will need to maintain consistency if they want to keep up with Arsenal in the Premier League title race. Sunderland, who were reduced to 10 men in stoppage time after Luke O’Nien received a straight red card, will naturally be disappointed with the outcome and have dropped to seventh place.
