Manchester City vs Tottenham Review
Tottenham maintained their strong start to the 2025/26 Premier League season by securing a 2-0 win against Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium, breaking a streak of six away league games without a victory. Both teams began the season with impressive wins, Tottenham defeated Burnley 3-0, while City outperformed Wolves with a 4-0 victory. Playing at home and backed by their fans, Manchester City were the favorites, but Tottenham’s recent record of only one loss in their last four matches in Manchester indicated they would be tough opponents. This was evident in the first half, which favored the visitors.
After Pedro Porro’s early shot hit the side netting, City gained the upper hand, with Omar Marmoush playing a key role. The Egyptian international first fired narrowly wide, then had two shots saved by Guglielmo Vicario, the second being a smart save as Marmoush advanced towards goal. Few minutes later, a flick-on from Mohamed Kudus allowed Richarlison to break free and pass across for Brennan Johnson, who confidently finished.
Soon after, Tottenham doubled their lead, though the goal resulted from a City error. However, it seemed unnecessary as Pep Guardiola’s side struggled to trouble Vicario significantly.
As the game neared its conclusion, City gained more and more control of the ball. However, Tottenham’s defense remained solid, effectively silencing the skilled City attackers. Overall, it was a surprisingly straightforward afternoon for Frank’s squad, who have now secured a perfect six points from two games without allowing a goal. Meanwhile, City still don’t resemble their former selves, with their weaknesses exposed by a team that has become one of Guardiola’s toughest opponents.
