Manchester City has officially completed the signing of midfielder Matheus Nunes from Wolverhampton Wanderers.

  • Manchester City initially had eyes set on Lucas Paqueta to bolster their midfield options.
  • The deal for Paqueta fell through, with City targeting Nunes from Wolves
  • Nunes has signed a five-year deal with the treble winners

The 25-year-old has signed a five-year contract with City, keeping him at the club until 2028.

The transfer fee for Nunes is reported to be £53 million, making him one of City’s significant summer acquisitions. He joins the club as a reinforcement for the midfield, particularly after the pursuit of West Ham United’s Lucas Paqueta faced obstacles due to an FA investigation into potential betting breaches.

Nunes expressed his excitement about joining Manchester City, highlighting the opportunity to work under the management of Pep Guardiola and alongside some of the world’s best players. He believes that the Premier League, known for its competitiveness, will bring out the best in him.

This signing comes as City faces the absence of Kevin De Bruyne, who is sidelined with a hamstring injury requiring surgery. The Belgian midfielder could be out for up to four months.

Matheus Nunes was a key figure for Wolverhampton Wanderers during the previous season, helping them avoid relegation and finish 13th in the Premier League. His move to Manchester City represents a significant step in his career as he joins the Premier League champions and Champions League winners.

Nunes is expected to provide valuable depth and quality to Manchester City’s midfield, contributing to the team’s ambitions in various competitions.
