Manchester United hit with injury crisis as Varane will be sidelined for ‘a few weeks’

Manchester United is grappling with an intensified injury crisis as star defender Raphael Varane has been sidelined for “a few weeks.”

  • Raphael Varane picked up an injury during United’s 3-2 victory over Forest
  • The club has confirmed that he will be sidelined for some weeks
  • This adds to United’s injury problems in the first team.

This setback comes at a crucial juncture, just before their impending showdown against Arsenal.

Raphael Varane, the accomplished French center-back, was forced to exit the field during the 3-2 victory over Nottingham Forest last Sunday. Complaints of discomfort prompted his substitution for Victor Lindelof at halftime. Erik ten Hag, keeping in mind the forthcoming Arsenal clash, opted to swiftly withdraw Varane to prevent exacerbating the injury.

Regrettably, Varane’s departure only adds to Manchester United’s growing list of sidelined players. Already burdened with the absence of Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia in defense, the team now faces the unavailability of Amad Diallo, Kobbie Mainoo, Rasmus Hojlund, and Mason Mount, all nursing their respective injuries. These setbacks cast a shadow on their upcoming visit to the Emirates Stadium.

In an official statement, Manchester United confirmed the extent of Varane’s injury, stating, “Raphael Varane will be missing from the team when Manchester United face Arsenal in the Premier League on Sunday due to injury. The France international came off at half-time in our 3-2 win against Nottingham Forest at Old Trafford on Saturday due to the complaint, which is expected to keep him out for a few weeks.”

With the international break on the horizon, United’s manager, Ten Hag, aims to capitalize on the respite to nurse the injured players back to fitness. The looming question remains: How will this void in defense affect the team dynamics? Notably, Varane’s absence could provide an opportunity for Harry Maguire to step up and prove his mettle after his proposed move to West Ham was thwarted.
