Manchester United Transfer News Now: Andre Onana has joined the Red Devils on a five-year deal after having a productive season with Inter

Manchester United has officially announced the signing of Cameroonian goalkeeper Andre Onana from Inter Milan. The 27-year-old shot-stopper has joined the English club on a five-year contract, with the option of extending it for an additional year, pending international clearance.

United had been in the market for a new goalkeeper following the departure of long-serving goalkeeper David de Gea, whose contract expired recently. The club had initially faced challenges in reaching an agreement with Inter for Onana, who previously played under Erik ten Hag during their time at Ajax.

However, a deal was finally struck between the two clubs this week, with the transfer fee reported to be an initial £43.8 million, potentially rising by another £3.4 million through add-ons.

Onana successfully completed his medical examination with Manchester United on Thursday and has joined his new teammates for the club’s pre-season tour in the United States.

In a statement released on the club’s official website, Manchester United confirmed the signing, expressing excitement about the acquisition. Onana himself shared his delight, saying, “To join Manchester United is an incredible honour and I have worked hard all my life to get to this moment, overcoming many obstacles along the way. Walking out at Old Trafford to defend our goal and contribute to the team will be another amazing experience. This is the start of a new journey for me, with new teammates, and new ambitions to fight for.”

Onana has a strong track record, having displayed impressive performances for Inter Milan during the 2022-23 campaign, recording 19 clean sheets in 41 appearances. He is widely regarded as one of the world’s top goalkeepers and is expected to further bolster Manchester United’s squad.

With the arrival of Onana, United is now better positioned to fill the void left by de Gea and enhance their winning mentality. The club’s football director, John Murtough, expressed confidence in Onana’s abilities, stating, “Having achieved success throughout his career, we know that Andre will further add to the winning mentality we are building within our squad. He is already one of the world’s best goalkeepers, and at the age of 27, we firmly believe that he can develop even further over the coming years.”

Onana may make his debut for Manchester United against Arsenal on Saturday evening, presenting an exciting opportunity for fans to witness the arrival of this talented goalkeeper in action.
