Manchester United vs Bodø/Glimt Review
Ruben Amorim achieved his first victory as Manchester United’s head coach in an exciting match, as his team came back from a goal down to defeat Bodø/Glimt 3-2 at Old Trafford, marking their sixth consecutive unbeaten home game in all competitions. Ruben Amorim’s team took the lead in just 49 seconds, as Alejandro Garnacho finished a play by tapping the ball into an empty net, thanks to Rasmus Højlund, who pressured Bodø goalkeeper Nikita Haikin and stole the ball in the penalty area.
Despite taking an early lead, United struggled to capitalize on several opportunities and were punished, conceding two quick goals, which marked the fourth time in five UEL matches they lost their advantage. Håkon Evjen found space just outside the box and skillfully curled a shot into the top corner. Shortly after, a long ball caught Tyrell Malacia, who was making his first senior start in over a year, off guard, allowing Philip Zinckernagel to score with a precise finish beneath André Onana. The away fans, the largest group for a European match at Old Trafford in recent times, were vocal, while Amorim was left puzzled by his team’s defensive lapses.
The stunned hosts needed to respond, and just before halftime, Højlund delivered with a brilliant goal. Noussair Mazraoui’s impressive footwork created space for a cross, which Højlund controlled and slotted into the bottom corner between two defenders.
After the break, United gained momentum and nearly regained the lead when Mason Mount hit the post. However, they soon took the lead again with a well-executed play, where Mount set up Manuel Ugarte on the right, leading to Højlund scoring again with a simple finish into the far corner.
Amorim’s halftime talk clearly had an impact on his players, who appeared to work together much better in the second half. However, they struggled to secure a two-goal lead as Garnacho missed four good opportunities, and Marcus Rashford also shot wide from a favorable position in the box. Onana made a crucial save from a free-kick in stoppage time, helping them achieve their second consecutive UEL victory and bringing them within a point of automatic qualification. Meanwhile, Bodø suffered their second straight UEL loss, falling behind their more prestigious opponents as they prepare for a domestic title match this weekend.
