Manchester United vs Ipswich Review
The 10-man Manchester United secured a 3-2 victory over Ipswich Town, marking their third consecutive win against the Premier League newcomers at Old Trafford this season. Ipswich started strong and took the lead just four minutes into the match, as Sam Morsy’s long ball led to a mishap when André Onana rushed out, allowing Patrick Dorgu to pass the ball to Jaden Philogene, who rolled it into the net. Harry Maguire’s header forced a solid save from Alex Palmer, and while the Red Devils dominated possession, they benefited from an own goal by Morsy, who deflected Bruno Fernandes’ powerful free-kick into his own goal to equalize.
Four minutes later, another set-piece from Fernandes created confusion, as Palmer stopped attempts from Maguire and Diogo Dalot before Matthijs de Ligt managed to score from the loose ball, beating Jens Cajuste to it. Dorgu then had a powerful shot saved, and Axel Tuanzebe had to make a crucial tackle to stop Alejandro Garnacho. However, the situation worsened for the hosts when Dorgu received a straight red card for his tackle on Omari Hutchinson, leaving them with 10 men.
Just before halftime, Philogene’s cross barely missed Liam Delap and Onana, finding its way into the bottom corner. With the score tied and a player down, United urgently needed a boost, which came just two minutes into the second half when Maguire headed in Fernandes’ corner to score in the bottom corner. Ipswich regained their composure after conceding, but Maguire deflected Delap’s shot wide, Cajuste had two attempts blocked, and Jack Taylor shot wide after coming off the bench. As the pressure mounted, Fernandes blocked Tuanzebe’s shot and made a long run up the pitch, delivering a pass that just missed Noussair Mazraoui.
George Hirst sent a header wide from a corner, while Onana managed to save Philogene’s curling attempt, allowing Man United to secure their first victory in four Premier League matches. This also marked Ipswich’s sixth loss in their last seven league games, leaving them five points adrift of 17th place Wolves.
