Manchester United vs Tottenham Review
Tottenham had a successful match at Old Trafford, defeating Manchester United 3-0 in the Premier League. This victory marked Spurs’ fourth consecutive unbeaten match against United. The team started strong, and in the third minute, Micky van de Ven made an impressive run from his own half, delivering a precise pass to Brennan Johnson, who scored at the back post, marking his fourth consecutive goal for the first time in his career.
James Maddison and Dejan Kulusevski then combined well, but Maddison’s shot was saved by André Onana, and Destiny Udogie missed the target as United found it difficult to cope with Spurs’ attacks. Johnson nearly added a second goal, hitting the post during another quick Spurs counterattack. Shortly after, Kobbie Mainoo set up Joshua Zirkzee, whose shot forced a remarkable save from Guglielmo Vicario. However, it wasn’t long before Ange Postecoglou’s team was causing trouble again, with Cristian Romero’s acrobatic attempt narrowly missing the target. There was another close call when Marcus Rashford’s cross reached Alejandro Garnacho, who hit the post with his volley.
Timo Werner missed a chance for United after getting behind the defense, but the struggling hosts faced more trouble before halftime when Bruno Fernandes was sent off for a challenge on Maddison, making him the fourth United captain to be dismissed in a Premier League match at Old Trafford. Erik ten Hag reacted with an immediate substitution and another before the second half began, but it was ineffective.
Spurs continued their strong performance, scoring within three minutes of the second half as Johnson advanced and his pass was deflected off De Ligt, allowing Kulusevski to score. Onana then made a double-save against Werner and Dominic Solanke, but Lisandro Martínez missed the target when the Red Devils showed some determination. Casemiro came closer from a tight angle, and Romero deflected Garnacho’s shot out for a corner as the Stretford End began to rally behind the team.
All hope was lost in the 78th minute when Lucas Bergvall and Pape Matar Sarr entered the game and quickly set up a chance that Solanke converted. This goal secured Spurs’ fourth straight victory, their first such streak since last October, after only managing one win in their first four matches this season. Meanwhile, United is looking for a similar change in form, having faced their third consecutive game without a win, and their paltry two Premier League victories this season have left them stuck in the lower half of the standings.
