Despite Liverpool’s interest, Mason Mount has decided to join Manchester United due to Champions League football
Mason Mount is reportedly on the verge of signing a high-profile transfer deal to join Manchester United. According to sources, Mount’s preference for Manchester United over Liverpool was motivated by the chance to participate in the Champions League.
Mason Mount has reportedly agreed to personal terms with Manchester United, and if a formal deal is made, a weekly salary of about £200,000 is anticipated. The 22-year-old English international wanted a better deal after talks with Chelsea fell down.
Given their need to save expenses following major transfer expenditure in the 2022–23 season, the Blues were unwilling to satisfy his pay demands and put him in the top earning category. Mount, who currently makes £80,000 a week, wanted a more lucrative deal, which allowed other possible suitors to join the picture.
Mason Mount’s skills has drawn interest from a number of Premier League clubs. Potential suitors were Liverpool, Manchester City, Newcastle, and Arsenal. But it seems as though Manchester United has taken the lead in the race to recruit the highly rated midfielder, beating all their competitors.
On the field, Mount shown his talent throughout the 2022–23 season. He made 35 appearances across all competitions and produced three goals before being sidelined by injury. Mount has accumulated 36 caps for England and had four appearances at the World Cup in Qatar thanks to his solid play for Chelsea and for the national team as well.
With a third-place performance in the 2022–23 season, Manchester United was assured of a spot in the lucrative UEFA Champions League for next season. Due of his desire to play at the top level of European club football, Mason Mount’s choice to sign with the Red Devils undoubtedly had a lot to do with this opportunity. The appeal of playing in the Champions League and the chance to contribute to Manchester United’s ambitious project under manager Erik ten Hag appear to have influenced Mount to choose Old Trafford.
