Manchester United has officially confirmed the signing of Denmark international Rasmus Hojlund from Atalanta BC on a contract until June 2028, with the option of an additional 12 months.
The 20-year-old striker joined Atalanta last summer from Austrian side Sturm Graz and impressed during the 2022-23 campaign, scoring 10 goals and providing four assists in 34 appearances.
Rasmus Hojlund emerged as Manchester United’s primary target to reinforce their attacking options for the upcoming season. Despite being linked with other players like Harry Kane and Victor Osimhen earlier in the transfer window, the young Dane became the top choice to bolster the club’s attacking force.
Upon the confirmation of his signing, Hojlund expressed his excitement about joining Manchester United and working with coach Erik ten Hag, stating that it has been his dream to play for the 20-time English champions since he was a child.
Manchester United’s football director, John Murtough, praised Hojlund’s talent, calling him an “exceptional talent” with technical and physical attributes that rank him among the best players in his age group globally. He believes that working under Erik ten Hag and his coaching staff will provide the perfect development platform for the young striker.
However, Hojlund’s Manchester United debut may be delayed as he sustained a minor injury during his time at Atalanta, which could potentially keep him out of the first two Premier League games against Wolverhampton Wanderers and Tottenham Hotspur.
Rasmus Hojlund is the third signing for Manchester United this summer, following the arrivals of Mason Mount from Chelsea and Andre Onana from Inter Milan. The club is keen on preparing the squad for further success in the upcoming season, and Hojlund’s addition adds depth to their attacking options.
