Chelsea Football Club has announced the squad numbers for their recent summer signings.
Christopher Nkunku will don the No 18 jersey, while Nicolas Jackson will wear No 15. Axel Disasi has been allocated the No 2 shirt, and Robert Sanchez will sport No 31.
The reshuffling of numbers extends to existing players as well, owing to the departure of various first-team members. Raheem Sterling will switch from No 17 to No 7, which was formerly worn by N’Golo Kante. Enzo Fernandez has transitioned from No 5 to No 8, previously occupied by Mateo Kovacic, and Mykhailo Mudryk has moved from No 15 to No 10, a shirt that was vacated by Christian Pulisic.
Other changes include Noni Madueke’s shift from No 31 to No 11 and Marc Cucurella’s transition from No 32 to No 3. These number changes correspond to the exits of Timo Werner and Marcos Alonso last summer.
Young midfielders Andrey Santos and Lesley Ugochukwu have chosen No 20 and No 16, respectively. Full-backs Ian Maatsen and Malo Gusto will wear No 29 and No 27. Armando Broja, previously No 18, will now wear No 19, a change prompted by Mason Mount’s departure to Manchester United. Carney Chukwuemeka has adopted Sterling’s former No 17, having previously worn No 30 after transferring from Aston Villa.
The list also reveals that Callum Hudson-Odoi, Romelu Lukaku, and Hakim Ziyech, who were excluded from Chelsea’s U.S. pre-season tour squad, are not included in the first-team list for the upcoming season. Their respective numbers, No 20, No 9, and No 22, have been reassigned to other players.
