Nottingham Forest has secured the loan signing of Portuguese full-back Nuno Tavares from Arsenal for the upcoming season.
The deal includes an option to buy for £12 million, giving Forest the opportunity to make the move permanent.
Tavares, 23, joined Arsenal from Benfica in the summer of 2021 for £8 million. He made 28 appearances for Arsenal during his first season, showcasing his versatility as a left-back. However, after falling down the pecking order following the arrival of Oleksandr Zinchenko, Tavares spent the previous season on loan at Marseille in Ligue 1. During his loan spell, he excelled in a wing-back role, scoring six goals in 31 league games.
Tavares expressed his enthusiasm about joining Nottingham Forest, emphasizing his desire to stay in the Premier League, which he considers the best league in the world.
Nottingham Forest’s Chief Football Officer, Ross Wilson, welcomed Tavares to the club and highlighted the player’s determination to succeed at Forest.
Tavares is the latest addition to Nottingham Forest’s summer signings, joining a list that includes Anthony Elanga, Matt Turner, Ola Aina, Andrey Santos, Gonzalo Montiel, and Murillo. His arrival provides valuable depth and competition in the left-back position for Forest as they aim for a successful campaign.
