Osimhen could miss Napoli’s UCL quarter-finals match

Victor Osimhen, a striker for Napoli, is in a race against time to recover in time to play against Milan in the Champions League quarterfinal.

Osimhen participated in both of Nigeria’s games during the international break, but he has since returned to the Italian club due to a left thigh issue.

He will be evaluated the next week, the club said on their website, and president Aurelio De Laurentiis expressed optimism that the star striker will soon return to action.

De Laurentiis allegedly stated, per Tuttomercato: “He should be out a couple of weeks, we hope.”

Osimhen is likely to miss Napoli’s Serie A games against Milan on Sunday and against Lecce on the following Friday.

On April 12, the first leg of the Champions League quarterfinal will be played in Milan. On April 18, the second leg will be played in Naples.

Osimhen, 24, has scored 25 goals in 29 games across all competitions, helping Luciano Spalletti’s team finish 19 points ahead of Lazio in second place in Serie A and advance to their first-ever Champions League quarterfinal.

Osimhen’s replacement is probably Argentinian attacker Giovanni Simeone, who has eight goals this season across all competitions.
