Patrick Vieira has been appointed as Strasbourg coach following the majority takeover of the club by Chelsea’s owners

Patrick Vieira has officially been named as the next head coach of Strasbourg Football Club. After previous coaching positions at OGC Nice and Crystal Palace in the Premier League, the former French international has signed a three-year contract with the club, marking his return to France.

Patrick Vieira’s hiring is hardly a surprise because it was reported a few days earlier, following the dismissal of Antonetti. Vieira’s contract with Strasbourg will last until 2026, demonstrating a commitment on the part of both sides to the long term.

The coaching career of Patrick Vieira has seen its share of highs and lows. He entered the Premier League with Crystal Palace after leaving Nice in 2020, but his tenure there was characterized by inconsistent results, and he was fired from his job in March.

The former Arsenal midfielder is now keen to establish himself in Strasbourg, replacing Frédéric Antonetti, who was let go as part of the club’s reorganization after it was purchased by the American consortium, BlueCo.

During his time in charge at Strasbourg, Frédéric Antonetti was renowned for leading the group to Ligue 1 safety. The hiring of Patrick Vieira marks a significant development for the organization as it enters a new era under the ownership of BlueCo. The seasoned coach is anticipated to infuse Strasbourg with a new outlook and a renewed feeling of desire as they attempt to build on their recent victories.
