Robert Lewandowski makes headlines as Poland names their 26-man squad
Poland’s team for Qatar 2022 is led by Robert Lewandowski, however neither Karol Linetty nor Mateusz Klich were present in Czeslaw Michniewicz’s 26-man roster.
Lewandowski will lead his nation in his second World Cup, his sixth big competition overall. He is joined by veteran teammates Grzegorz Krychowiak and Kamil Glik, the latter of whom has 98 caps for Poland and will look to join him in the 100-cap club during the competition.
However, Torino midfielder Linetty, who has 42 caps, was ruled-out due to the intense competition for positions. Jakub Moder of Brighton and Hove Albion and Klich of Leeds United are the other two Premier League absentees; the latter is out due to injury.
Meanwhile, Maciej Rybus continues to live in exile after switching to Spartak Moscow in June. Rybus was dropped from the international squad as a result of his decision to join the Russian club when that Russia invaded Ukraine.
There are no uncapped players in the team, however Lech Poznan midfielder Michal Skoras and defender Mateusz Wieteska of Clermont will both be hoping to add to their already one international outing.
On November 22, Poland will play Mexico to open Group C play, followed by matches against Saudi Arabia and Argentina.
