Premier League: Liverpool vs Fulham live

Preview

Liverpool will host Fulham at Anfield on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. with the goal of extending their Premier League winning streak to five games. The Reds subdued Tottenham Hotspur 4-3 on Sunday, just a few hours after Marco Silva’s team had been trounced 2-1 by Manchester City.

Liverpool were on the verge of giving up a three goal lead on Sunday against Spurs but a Lucas Moura back pass assisted Diogo Jota to score the winner for the home side. Liverpool now head into this matchup on the back of four consecutive league wins. However, the Reds still trail Manchester United by seven points, so Klopp was understandably sceptical about his team’s slim chances of qualifying for the Champions League. This is especially true given that his team has now conceded at least once in each of their previous five games. In contrast, Liverpool have scored at least twice in each of those five games, totaling 17 goals during that period. Their unbeaten streak at Anfield in the league currently runs at nine games heading into this matchup.

The Fulham supporters had every right to be pleased with their team’s efforts after their 2-1 loss to Manchester City last weekend, but back-to-back losses have dashed the Cottagers’ hopes of qualifying for Europe as they currently sit in 10th place in the standings, five points ahead of Crystal Palace and five points behind Brentford, both of whom have played one more game. Silva’s team has now lost seven of their past nine games in all competitions, with the exception of two victories over Everton and Leeds United. They have also failed to maintain a single clean sheet since February, which is not encouraging ahead of a difficult trip to Anfield.

Head-to-head

On the very first day of the 2022/23 Premier League season, Fulham held Liverpool to a 2-2 draw at Craven Cottage in early August. Liverpool have now gone three straight games without a win against the Cottagers, but they will rely on a strong home record versus Fulham at Anfield, where they have 16 victories, 6 draws, and 2 loses in 24 games.

Prediction

Fulham may still worry a leaky and worn-out Liverpool backline without their star creator Pereira, but their own shortcomings at the opposite end of the pitch should lead to their demise here. The Reds haven’t exactly made their victories against West Ham United, Nottingham Forest, and Tottenham easy for their fans, but with an attack that is almost fully healthy, a fifth straight victory awaits the top-four contenders.
