In a drama filled gameweek where City were crowned champions, several interesting results came up, notably, Spurs’ defeat to Brentford and Arsenal’s defeat to Nottingham Forest.

Tottenham 1-3 Brentford

Tottenham Hotspur were defeated 3-1 by Brentford at home in their penultimate Premier League game of the season. Harry Kane put the hosts ahead with a stunning kick in the first half, but Bryan Mbeumo scored twice in the second half to turn the game on its head. Yoann Wissa added a third for Brentford in the 88th minute to secure their first win at Tottenham since 1905. The defeat leaves Tottenham eighth in the Premier League table, one point behind Aston Villa who is in contention for Europa League play-offs.

Everton earned a crucial point in their fight against relegation after Yerry Mina scored a 99th-minute equaliser to draw 1-1 with Wolves. The Toffees had been trailing since Hwang Hee-chan’s first-half goal, but Mina headed home in the dying seconds to keep Everton two points above the relegation zone with one game to play. Everton will now be hoping that their rivals Leicester slip up in their game against Newcastle United today.

Fulham 2-2 Crystal Palace

Fulham and Crystal Palace played to a 2-2 draw in a London derby at Craven Cottage on Sunday. Odsonne Edouard gave Palace the lead in the 20th minute, but Fulham equalized through a penalty converted by Mitrovic on the brink of half-time. Aleksandar Mitrovic scored again to put put Fulham ahead in the 61st minute, but Joel Ward equalized for Palace in the 83rd minute. The draw leaves Fulham in 10th place in the Premier League, while Crystal Palace is in 11th place with 8 points difference.

Bornemouth 0-1 Manchester United

Manchester United moved to within one point of a top-four finish in the Premier League with a 1-0 win at Bournemouth on Saturday. Casemiro gave United the lead in the 9th minute with a stunning spinning volley, and the Red Devils held on for the win despite a late scare when David De Gea denied Kieffer Moore on a one-on-one. The win leaves United in fourth place, three points ahead of Liverpool despite having a game in hand. Bournemouth, who had already secured Premier League safety, remain in 15th place.

Liverpool slipped up the chance to keep on edge with Manchester United and Newcastle United. In the thrilling game at Anfield, the visitors had the opportunity to take the lead through a penalty but Watkins’ shot went too wide. Five minutes later, Douglas Luiz set up Jacob Ramsey who sent the ball into the net with a diving header. 10 minutes into the second-half, Gakpo seemed to have equalised but the goal was ruled out for offside. Eventually, Liverpool got their equaliser through Firmino, who played his last game for Liverpool at Anfield.

Nottingham Forest 1-0 Arsenal

Nottingham Forest defeated Arsenal 1-0 at the City Ground on Saturday to secure their place in next season’s Premier League. The only goal of the game came in the 19th minute when Taiwo Awoniyi latched onto a through ball from Ryan Yates and slotted the ball past Aaron Ramsdale. Arsenal had a number of chances to equalise, but they were denied by some good saves from Keylor Navas and some resolute defending from Forest. The win means that Forest are now mathematically safe from relegation.

West Ham 3-1 Leeds United

West Ham came from behind to defeat Leeds United 3-1 at the London Stadium on Sunday afternoon. Leeds took the lead in the first half through Rodrigo, but West Ham equalized through Declan Rice before half-time. Jarrod Bowen then gave the hosts the lead in the 71st minute while Lanzini added the icing to the cake in stoppage time. The result leaves Leeds in the relegation zone, and they will need to beat Tottenham Hotspur in their final game of the season to avoid being relegated to the Championship.

West Ham United

Brighton 3-1 Southampton

Brighton and Hove Albion defeated Southampton 3-1 at the Amex Stadium on Sunday to secure European football for next season. Evan Ferguson scored twice for the Seagulls, and another from Pascal Groß in the second half. Elyounoussi pulled a goal back for Southampton when play resumed for the second half.Theo Walcott’s goal 5 minutes later could have brought the scoreline close but it was ruled out. The result leaves Brighton in sixth place with 61 points and securing a chances in Europe for the first time in their history.

Manchester City won 1-0 against Chelsea in their Premier League match on May 21, 2023, at the Etihad Stadium. The only goal of the match was scored by Julian Alvarez in the 55th minute. City dominated possession throughout the match, but Chelsea created some good chances of their own. However, they were unable to find the back of the net and City held on for the win. The victory ensured that City would finish the season as Premier League champions.

In this match, Leicester will be more determined to win as they continue their relegation battle. Newcastle on the other hand want to solidify their place for UCL football next season.
