PSG will start their quest to defend their Ligue 1 title by hosting Lorient in the first weekend of the 2023-24 season. The fixtures for the upcoming campaign were announced on Thursday.
The new season will have 34 matchdays, as the top flight has been reduced from 20 teams to 18. Only two clubs were promoted from the second tier, while four Ligue 1 teams were relegated. The season will kick off on August 12th.
PSG will then travel to Toulouse, the winners of the French Cup, before hosting Lens, who finished as runners-up in Ligue 1 last season.
Lens came in second place, only one point behind PSG, and will start their upcoming season by playing against Brest. Olympique de Marseille, who finished in third place, will be hosting Stade de Reims.
PSG’s upcoming matches will not be any less challenging, as they will face their arch-rivals Marseille on September 24th in the highly anticipated ‘Le Classique’ match on matchday six.
Last season, PSG won their 11th Ligue 1 title despite facing internal issues following their elimination from the Champions League in the round of 16.
Lionel Messi, a seven-time Ballon d’Or recipient, decided not to extend his contract with the club due to being jeered by the fans. Consequently, he departed for Inter Miami once his contract expired.
