PSG News Latest: In the midst of the Kylian Mbappe transfer saga that has engulfed Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), the club faces another challenge as reports suggest they are considering parting ways with their seasoned defender, Marquinhos.
The Brazilian’s remarks on Mbappe’s circumstance appear to have generated dissension inside the club’s management, which has raised the likelihood of his leaving Parc des Princes.
Kylian Mbappe’s contractual uncertainty has been a hot topic of discussion, with the French striker refusing to sign a contract extension with PSG. On the other hand, the team is determined that they won’t let him depart for free in 2024. Mbappe’s exclusion from the first team and even the preseason tour squad is evidence of the toll the situation has taken.
Marquinhos stated in a news conference that he wanted to keep playing with Mbappe despite the uncertainty surrounding the young Frenchman’s future. These remarks, however, rankled the club’s upper management, who are now open to the notion of trading the Brazilian defender, according to reports.
If the move happens, Marquinhos, who has been with the team since 2013, might call time on his magnificent 10-year career at Parc des Princes. The seasoned defender has contributed considerably to PSG’s domestic domination throughout his stay, helping the club win eight Ligue 1 titles and several other domestic awards.
However, Marquinhos’ status at the club is in risk for more reasons than simply the most recent remarks. For his apparent lack of leadership following PSG’s Champions League exit by the hands of Bayern Munich last season, the defender has received internal criticism.
In addition, the club feels that after the departure of former coach Thomas Tuchel in 2020, Marquinhos has not reached his full potential. The 29-year-old defender’s prospective sale would seem to fit with PSG’s desire to boost the club with players and their desire to recruit young players.
