PSG News Latest: Kylian Mbappe has set his eyes on breaking the Ligue 1 top scorer record

Kylian Mbappe has expressed his desire to break the Ligue 1 record for being the top scorer for six consecutive seasons next year. He has already matched the record set by Jean-Pierre Papin for winning five straight Golden Boot awards.

Mbappe scored his 29th league goal of the season in PSG’s last game against Clermont, which they lost 3-2, and finished as the top scorer in Ligue 1 once again.

Last week, the French player was awarded the title of Ligue 1 player of the season for the fourth consecutive time. Since his transfer to PSG became permanent in 2018, he has been the top scorer in the league every year and even shared the Golden Boot with Wissam Ben Yedder from AS Monaco in the 2019-20 season.

“My top scorer award? I’m very happy. We’ve won the championship. I’m still top scorer and top player. So that’s great,” said Mbappe, who is also PSG’s all-time top scorer.

“It’s true that it was at the end of the season, when we’d won the title, that it was a personal goal and I’ve achieved it.”

“I’m going down in history and I’m happy. But I still have next year to beat Jean-Pierre Papin.”

Papin was the initial player to win the Ligue 1 Golden Boot five times consecutively from 1987 to 1992 while playing for Olympique de Marseille, although three other players have also achieved this feat.

Mbappe has declared his intention to fulfill his PSG contract, and his statement is a strong indication that he will remain with the club despite speculation of interest from Real Madrid, who have previously pursued the French forward without success.

Last year, Mbappe extended his contract with PSG until 2025. However, according to reports, the contract was for two years with an option for a third year, which means that Mbappe will be in the final year of his contract in the upcoming season.
