Dutch forward Quincy Promes has been prosecuted for drug trafficking

According to Dutch prosecutors, Quincy Promes, a Dutch forward playing for Spartak Moscow, is facing charges for his supposed participation in drug trafficking.

The ex-national team player is suspected of being involved in the smuggling of 1,360 kilograms of cocaine to the Netherlands or Belgium in two separate shipments in 2020.

The lawyer representing Promes did not respond to a request for comment from Reuters and their office was unavailable to answer calls after business hours on Tuesday.

According to Dutch newspaper Het Parool, the lawyer plans to address the case during a pro forma hearing on Monday, which Promes is not expected to attend.

Promes, a former player for Ajax and Sevilla who has been capped 50 times, is currently facing charges of assault in the Netherlands related to a stabbing incident involving his cousin at a family party in July 2020.

Promes denies any involvement in the incident, and a hearing for this case is also scheduled for Monday.
