Real Sociedad vs Real Madrid Review
Real Madrid maintained their unbeaten record in the La Liga season with a 1-0 victory against Real Sociedad, marking the hosts’ fourth consecutive home loss in the top division for the first time since 2007. The Reale Arena was filled with noise as Real Madrid arrived, and Real Sociedad aimed to capitalize on the lively atmosphere early on.
The home team nearly gave their supporters something to celebrate within the first five minutes when Sergio Gómez’s free-kick forced a clever save from Thibaut Courtois. It took Madrid 15 minutes to find their rhythm, but once they did, their skill led to a clear scoring opportunity, although Kylian Mbappé’s low left-foot shot was blocked by Álex Remiro’s legs.
There was an increasing feeling that the first goal was imminent, and Luka Sučić came close to scoring when his powerful shot from 20 yards hit the inside of the post. The woodwork proved to be a lucky charm for Madrid, as it saved them again before halftime. This time, the crossbar prevented a goal when Sheraldo Becker’s shot hit the upright after Sučić’s clever pass. Remarkably, just 30 seconds into the second half, the Basque team struck the woodwork for a third time when Sučić made a run into the box and hit the post.
The home team regretted these missed chances shortly before the hour mark when Arda Güler’s powerful shot from the edge of the area was blocked by Gómez’s arm. Vinícius Júnior took the penalty and, despite Remiro getting a hand to it, the ball went into the corner. Remiro soon faced another penalty when Jon Aramburu brought down Vinícius in the box. This time, it was Mbappé who took the shot from 12 yards, and he successfully sent Remiro the wrong way, effectively sealing the game.
At that moment, Sociedad appeared to be deeply defeated, and despite their efforts to regain control of the game, it was too late for them. The evening, however, was dominated by Madrid, who have now achieved an impressive unbeaten streak of 18 away league matches.
