Riyad Mahrez has completed a sensational a move to join Saudi Arabian Al Ahli on a 3-year deal
Manchester City winger Riyad Mahrez has completed his transfer to Saudi Arabian side Al Ahli. The deal, reportedly worth €35 million ($39.2 million) plus €5 million in add-ons, sees the 32-year-old sign a three-year contract with a conditional fourth year option.
Mahrez enjoyed a successful five-year stint at Manchester City after joining from Leicester City in 2018. During his time with the club, he made 236 appearances, scoring 78 goals and providing 59 assists. He played a pivotal role in City’s triumphs, winning a total of 11 major trophies, including four Premier League titles, three EFL Cups, two FA Cups, one Community Shield, and one Champions League.
Expressing his gratitude, Mahrez stated, “To play for Manchester City has been an honour and privilege. I came to City to win trophies and enjoy my football, and I achieved all that and so much more. I have had five unforgettable years with this football club, working with unbelievable players, fantastic supporters, and the best manager in the world. Manchester City will forever be a huge and happy part of my life.”
City’s director of football, Txiki Begiristain, praised Mahrez’s contributions to the team’s successes and acknowledged his outstanding footballing abilities.
Al-Ahli has been active in the transfer market, and Mahrez’s signing follows those of goalkeeper Edouard Mendy from Chelsea and forward Roberto Firmino from Liverpool.
Mahrez’s departure leaves a void in Manchester City’s squad, and the club is actively pursuing replacements, with the likes of Bernardo Silva potentially staying to bolster the team further.
