In a homecoming that has stirred the emotions of football fans worldwide, former Real Madrid stalwart Sergio Ramos has made a triumphant return to his childhood club, Sevilla.
Ramos, whose illustrious professional career began at Sevilla’s academy when he was just seven years old, has come full circle as he dons the iconic white jersey once again. This time, however, he returns as a seasoned veteran at the age of 37, ready to make his mark on the 2023-24 season.
Ramos’s return to Sevilla did not come without a subtle dig at his former club, Paris Saint-Germain (PSG). He hinted that despite the opportunity to continue with PSG, he chose to head back to his roots in Spain. Sergio Ramos expressed his belief in the project and the values that Sevilla represents. In his own words, “It wasn’t a matter of money or a contract, but a question of philosophy, mentality, feeling. At Sevilla, we come together in these values.”
The defender, known for his tenacity and leadership on the pitch, aims to lead Sevilla to glory. He articulated his ambition, saying, “I had the opportunity to return home, do it as a leader with the hope of lifting a title. I wake up every day for this goal; I believe we can do it. We know it is very difficult, but the first thing we can do is believe in it.”
Ramos’s journey in recent years has seen him make a high-profile move to PSG in 2021 after leaving Real Madrid. During his time in Paris, he secured consecutive Ligue 1 titles before departing for a new challenge.
Despite Ramos’ return to the club, some ultras have raised concerns as to why the club re-signed Sergio Ramos. We reported earlier this week revealing the concerns these ultras expressed.
