Here is the Serie A Roundup from the weekend games
With the end of the season approaching, each Serie A club will strive for every point in order to reach their season ambitions. So, here’s a recap of what happened on Matchday 31:
Verona 2-1 Bologna
Matchday 31 started on Friday, 21st of April at Stadio Marc’Antonio Bentehodi, the home of relegation threatened Verona, as the host Europe aspirants Bologna. With relegation looming for Verona, they knew just a point will not help their cause for survival, thus, seasoned veteran Simone Verdi rose to the occasion as he scored twice for Verona. Nicolas Dominguez got a goal back for Bologna in the late minutes of the game but it was too late as the home side got a 2-1 victory.

Salernitana 3-0 Sassuolo
Saturday, 22nd of April gave us three intriguing games as Salernitana hosted Sassuolo for a mid table clash, second place Lazio then welcomed Torino to the Stadio Olimpico and a scrapy relegation zone matchup between Sampdoria and Spezia. Salernitana and Sassuolo kicked off the day at the Stadio Arechi in Salerno, the game ended with a 3-0 win for the home side Salernitana.

Lazio 0-1 Torino
The next game was in Rome where top four aspirant Lazio welcomed mid table side Torino to the Stadio Olimpico as the home side aimed to continue their push for a top four finish. It was an uneventful day for Sarri’s men as Ivan Ilic’s 43rd minute goal was enough for Torino to get the win over an in form Lazio side.

Sampdoria 1-1 Spezia
Sampdoria and Spezia then capped off the day at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris, where both sides played out a 1-1 stalemate, a bad result for the home side, Sampdoria, as they sit bottom of the table.

Empoli 0-3 Inter Milan
Inter Milan’s trip to Stadio Carlo Castellani to face Empoli kicked of the first of five games on Sunday, 23rd of April. Sixth place Inter Milan needed and got the maximum points for their quest for champions league football next season. Romelu Lukaku spearheaded Inter’s 3-0 win over Empoli as the Belgian scored twice and assisted Lautaro Martinez for the third goal.

Monza 3-2 Fiorentina
AC Monza hosted goal-happy Fiorentina for a mid table matchup. The home side did enough to overcome two early goals from Fiorentina in a 3-2 comeback. This was their first win against Fiorentina since 2019.

Undinese 3-0 Cremonese
Udinese also welcomed 19th place Cremonese to Dacia Arena, three first half goals from the home side was enough to see off Cremonese.

AC Milan 2-0 Leece
Defending champions, AC Milan who sit fifth on the table then welcomed Lecce to the San Siro as they seek to close the gap between them and fourth place AS Roma. The lethal Raphael Leao scored twice to give the home side a comfortable 2-0 win over Lecce who now sit sixteenth, two points above the drop zone.

Juventus 0-1 Napoli
We then ended the day at Allianz stadium where Juventus welcomed league leaders Napoli. Juventus were in high spirits leading into the fierce matchup as their 15 points deduction was overturned during the week which moved them right back to third place. The game was leading towards a stalemate when Di Maria scored in the 83rd minute for Juventus, the video assistant referee then disallowed the goal due to a foul leading up to the goal.
Napoli’s Raspadori, who came on for Khvicha Kvaratskhelia in the 86th minute, then scored in the 93rd minute to give the away side the win over Juventus. This win brings Napoli closer to a historic Scudetto title as they now sit seventeen points clear at the top of the league.

Atalanta vs AS Roma
Atalanta and AS Roma will end matchday 31 on Monday, 24th of April when the face off at the Gewiss Stadium in Bergamo at 6:45pm.
Matchday 31 has so far been entertaining with lots of goals and late drama, and with Juventus back in the top four contention after their 15 points deduction being overturned and the battle for survival heating up, expect a fierce battle straight down to the wire this season.
