UEFA Europa League: Sevilla vs Juventus live

Preview

Six-time winners of the competition Sevilla host Italian giants Juventus at the iconic Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan Stadium in Seville on Thursday night. Kick off is scheduled for 7:00 pm(GMT) with Danny Makkelie from the Netherlands in charge as center referee. With both teams impressing with their performances en route to today’s match, nothing short of close competition should be expected at the La Bombonera.

After a difficult start to the season, Sevilla are back to their very best since the appointment of Jose Luis Mendilibar as manager. With just one defeat in their last ten outings, the Rojiblancos are on course to finish the campaign on the best possible high. In a disappointing turn of events in the first leg at the Allianz Stadium in Turin, Sevilla conceded in additional time to give away a 1-0 first half lead. Without a home defeat in the UEFA Europa League since the 2018/2019 season, Mendilibar’s men should be confident of the win today.

La Vecchia Signora are in search of their fourth UEFA Cup/ Europa League trophy this season, last winning the competition in the 1992/1993 campaign. With wins against Freiburg and Sporting en route to the semis, Juventus will have to bring their A-game tonight at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan. With three wins and two draws in their last five outings, Allegri’s men are more than capable of securing the all important win today.

Head-to-head

Sevilla and Juventus have produced memorable performances over the last years when these two sides have met in continental competitions. The last five meetings between Sevilla and Juventus has seen two wins for Juve, a win for the Spanish side and two draws. In a stalemate last week, Youssef En-Nesyri and Federico Gatti scored for their respective sides in a 1-1 draw.

Prediction

Sevilla have proven beyond reasonable doubt why they are the best team in the UEFA Europa League over the last decade. With impressive performances against Fenerbahce and Manchester United in the knockouts this season, the Spanish side have what it takes to secure the win today.

Juventus however, will be hoping to continue with their impressive away record in the knockouts this season as they’ve won two and drawn one of their three away games in the competition. A close contested should be expected today with goals likely to be scored on both ends. However, Sevilla’s resilience and determination could be pivotal with a win for the home side the most probable outcome.
