Ten Hag reveals the secret to United’s improvement this season

Erik ten Hag praised his team’s perseverance following their FA Cup comeback victory over Fulham.

As a result of Fulham’s utter surrender, which included Aleksandar Mitrovic, Willian, and manager Marco Silva receiving red cards, Man Utd were able to capitalise on their first-half deficit at Old Trafford and go on to win 3-1.

With the victory, the Red Devils have secured a spot at Wembley Stadium for the second time this season. On their first visit, Man Utd defeated Newcastle United 2-0 to win the Carabao Cup.

After the game, Ten Hag spoke with ITV about how his squad has progressed despite playing more games than any other Premier League team this season:

“We once again showed big character. We’ve played the most games from any Premier League team, from all the teams in Europe, and we are physically fit and we are mentally fit.

“When we concede a goal we fight back, so I’m happy with this progress. We have [resilience] in the team, the team has leaders, we set high standards and we follow these standards.”

Ten Hag responded to a question regarding the official’s choice to dismiss Willian and award Man United a penalty for a handball on the goal line:

“It was a clear and obvious hand ball. I go back to last week at Southampton where we saw the same: a hand ball in the box is a clear penalty.”
