Lionel Messi and Erling Haaland are among the nominees for The Best FIFA Men’s Player award in the 2023 The FIFA Best Awards Nominees.
Messi, who now plays for Inter Miami, won the 2022-23 Ligue 1 title with Paris Saint-Germain and became the all-time leading scorer in Europe’s top five leagues. Haaland, who had a stellar season with Manchester City, won the Premier League Golden Boot and the European Golden Shoe.
The list of nominees also includes Julian Alvarez, Kevin De Bruyne, Rodri, and Bernardo Silva, all from Manchester City. Ilkay Gundogan, who left City for Barcelona in the summer, is also a nominee. Declan Rice, who plays for Arsenal, is the only other Premier League player on the shortlist.
In the women’s category, CF Pachuca’s Jenni Hermoso, who won the Women’s World Cup with Spain and received the World Cup Silver Ball, is among the nominees. Other nominees include Aitana Bonmati, Rachel Daly, Caitlin Foord, Mary Fowler, Alex Greenwood, Lindsey Horan, Amanda Ilestedt, Lauren James, Sam Kerr, Mapi Leon, Hinata Miyazawa, Salma Paralluelo, and Keira Walsh.
For The Best FIFA Men’s Coach of the Year award, Pep Guardiola and Ange Postecoglou are among the nominees, while Emma Hayes and Sarina Wiegman are nominated for The Best FIFA Women’s Coach of the Year award.
The Best FIFA Men’s Goalkeeper nominees include Yassine Bounou, Thibaut Courtois, Ederson, Andre Onana, and Marc-Andre ter Stegen. The Women’s Goalkeeper nominees are Mackenzie Arnold, Ann-Katrin Berger, Cata Coll, Mary Earps, Christiane Endler, Zecira Musovic, and Sandra Panos.
