The Latest on Manchester United News: Amad Diallo Sidelined with Knee Injury

The Latest on Manchester United News: Amad Diallo is set to stay at the club this summer after suffering a knee injury that has ruled out a potential loan move.

The 21-year-old winger was left out of a recent friendly against Borussia Dortmund in Las Vegas due to the injury, which has now been assessed and confirmed to keep him out for the first part of the season.

Amad was attracting interest from clubs in Serie A for a potential loan move before the injury occurred while he was on United’s pre-season tour of the United States. He had hoped to impress manager Erik ten Hag and secure regular first-team minutes.

The Ivorian international had a successful loan spell at Sunderland last season, where he scored 14 goals in 42 appearances, helping the club reach the Championship play-off semi-finals. However, his pre-season preparations with Manchester United were hampered by an ankle injury suffered during a friendly against Arsenal in New Jersey.

Amad Diallo joined Manchester United in January 2021 in a deal worth £19 million from Atalanta, with additional add-ons amounting to £18.2 million. Since then, he has made nine senior appearances for the club, scoring one goal.

Unfortunately, Amad’s injury setback means he will miss the early stages of the 2023-24 Premier League season. Manchester United has not specified the exact duration of his absence, but it is a blow to the young winger’s hopes of making a significant impact at the start of the campaign.

Fellow young midfielder Kobbie Mainoo has also been ruled out of the start of the season due to an ankle injury picked up during a pre-season clash with Real Madrid. The 18-year-old had been expected to make a breakthrough into the first team this season, but the extent of his absence is yet to be determined.
