Tottenham News Latest: Spurs have shifted their attention to Bayer Leverkusen boss Xabi Alonso
Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly interested in hiring Bayer Leverkusen manager Xabi Alonso as their new head coach. The Spurs hierarchy are in search of a permanent replacement for former boss Antonio Conte, who was let go in March.
Although names have been linked to the vacant position, the lack of clarity over next season may impact their efforts to attract a new head coach. Feyenoord’s Arne Slot, who has impressed with his performances in the Eredivisie, has emerged as a candidate. However, according to reports, Spurs are more interested in Alonso’s vast high-profile experiences during his playing days.

Alonso, who has won domestic and Champions League titles in different countries, has made an impact at Leverkusen since taking over as manager. He has transformed the struggling team into contenders for European qualification in the Bundesliga and taken them to the semi-finals of the Europa League, where they will face Roma. In total, Alonso has won 17 of his 31 matches in charge, losing just seven times.
Despite Alonso’s success, it remains to be seen if he would consider leaving Leverkusen after less than a year in charge. The Spanish manager’s impressive resume and experience make him an attractive option for Spurs, who are in need of a strong leader to guide them to success. However, Spurs may face fierce competition from other clubs interested in Alonso’s services.
Meanwhile, Slot has impressed with his coaching skills at AZ Alkmaar and Feyenoord. He has led Feyenoord to the brink of winning the Eredivisie title ahead of PSV Eindhoven and Ajax. Feyenoord being confirmed as Dutch champions would further enhance his stock. However, the Spurs hierarchy appears to be more attracted to Alonso’s high-profile experience, which could influence their decision-making process.
