Tottenham News Latest: Bryan Gil has undergone surgery on a groin injury, leaving the attacking midfielder expected to miss the start of the new season.
The 22-year-old Spanish player returned to Tottenham this summer after spending the second half of the 2022-23 season on loan at Sevilla.
Since joining Tottenham in 2021 from Sevilla, Gil has struggled to establish himself, making only 13 Premier League appearances and spending time on loan at both Sevilla and Valencia. Despite his recent injury setback, Gil still has three seasons remaining on his five-year contract with the club.
This news comes as a blow to Gil, who was hoping to impress new head coach Ange Postecoglou during pre-season. However, the injury has prevented him from participating in Tottenham’s pre-season tour and the opportunity to compete for a starting role.
Gil’s absence may also impact any potential loan moves, as the injury is likely to keep him sidelined until at least January. The young attacker will now have to focus on his recovery and work hard to make an impact once he returns to full fitness.
With the arrival of new attacking options like Manor Solomon and James Maddison, competition for places in the Tottenham attack has increased, making Gil’s journey to establish himself even more challenging. However, his successful loan spell at Sevilla, where he helped the club win the Europa League, indicates that he has the potential to make an impact once he is back on the field.
Tottenham’s upcoming pre-season friendlies against Shakhtar Donetsk and Barcelona will go ahead without Gil’s involvement, as the club looks to prepare for their 2023-24 Premier League campaign, starting with a match against Brentford on August 13.
