Chelsea achieved their fifth consecutive head-to-head win against Tottenham, defeating their London rivals 1-0 to equal their points tally in the Premier League standings. This London derby, known for many exciting matches over the years, started off slowly, possibly due to the early concussion-related substitution of Spurs midfielder Lucas Bergvall. The game was mostly confined to midfield, with Chelsea controlling the play, but their first notable chance on goal only came around the 20th minute when Alejandro Garnacho’s shot was comfortably saved by Guglielmo Vicario. Shortly after, a clearer threat emerged as João Pedro capitalized on a loose ball and curled a shot towards Vicario.

Enzo Maresca’s team finally found success on their third attempt in the 34th minute when Moisés Caicedo powerfully broke through the Spurs defense, winning several challenges, most importantly against Micky Van de Ven, before passing to Pedro, who easily scored. Chelsea’s Brazilian forward had the chance to score again before halftime but was denied by Vicario after a dangerous attempt set up by Malo Gusto’s cross. In contrast, Tottenham didn’t manage their first shot on target until the sixth minute of first-half stoppage time, when Mohammed Kudus forced a smart save from Robert Sánchez.

Overall, Thomas Frank’s side needed significant improvements after the break, but the same pattern continued with Chelsea controlling the game. It was only Chelsea’s poor finishing that kept Tottenham in the match, as Enzo Fernández and Reece James both missed shots by firing over the crossbar. Vicario twice denied strong attempts from Pedro Neto as the match neared its conclusion, and despite several late substitutions, the home team never appeared close to scoring an equalizer.

A lackluster performance extended Spurs’ winless streak at home in the Premier League to four games, maintaining the already negative atmosphere surrounding most matches played in the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, even though the Lilywhites remain in the top four. Meanwhile, Chelsea’s success at this venue continued, as they secured their sixth win in seven Premier League visits, temporarily moving into the top four as a result.
