Tottenham vs Chelsea Review
Chelsea made a stunning comeback from being two goals down to defeat Tottenham 4-3 in a thrilling derby, marking their third straight victory against Spurs in the Premier League. On derby day, there is little room for sympathy, and Marc Cucurella’s slip was severely punished when Brennan Johnson sprinted forward to deliver a cross that Dominic Solanke converted before Levi Colwill could intervene. Cucurella slipped again within the first 11 minutes, leading to another goal as Dejan Kulusevski scored with a shot that found the inside of Robert Sánchez’s post.
While the left-back went off to change his boots, the home fans celebrated, but their joy was short-lived as Jadon Sancho scored an impressive goal that hit the post and went in. Cole Palmer unusually missed a chance to level the score before Son Heung-min nearly found the top corner at the other end. Fraser Forster made two impressive saves in quick succession to stop Palmer and Pedro Neto, while Pape Matar Sarr’s header hit the crossbar, and Solanke failed to make solid contact with Son’s fast pass. The game only slowed down when Spurs fans threw objects onto the field, and just before halftime, Radu Drăgușin made a crucial block to prevent Nicolas Jackson from scoring.
The Blues returned to the field determined to equalize, with Sancho connecting with Cucurella, but Forster denied them again, and Enzo Fernández’s shot narrowly missed the post. Spurs faced more injury issues as Johnson limped off, and things worsened when Yves Bissouma recklessly tackled Moisés Caicedo, resulting in a penalty that Palmer confidently converted to equalize with thirty minutes left. Son then squandered a great chance amid confusion over an offside call, and Micky van de Ven headed wide as Spurs tried to regain their lead.
Chelsea took the lead when Palmer skillfully maneuvered into the box and delivered a pass that deflected to Fernández, who finished it with a powerful shot. The hosts faced further trouble when Van de Ven had to leave the game, and Sarr fouled Palmer, resulting in another penalty.
The Blues’ star player executed a cheeky Panenka, adding to Spurs’ woes as they experienced consecutive losses, despite Son scoring a late goal. Currently, Spurs are nine positions lower than Chelsea, who are in second place in the Premier League and have extended their unbeaten run to eight matches across all competitions.
