Tottenham news latest: In an interview, Arne Slot has reaffirmed his decision to remain with Feyenoord despite emerging as a top candidate for Spurs
Arne Slot, the highly-regarded Feyenoord coach, has declared his desire to stay at the Dutch club, giving Tottenham Hotspur’s hunt for a new manager even another obstacle. Spurs were considering Slot as a potential possibility after their pursuit of Mauricio Pochettino and Julian Nagelsmann broke down, so this development comes as a blow to them.
Slot was viewed as a leading possibility to take over as Tottenham’s manager after leading Feyenoord to Eredivisie title victory this season. The 44-year-old has stated his wish to remain at Feyenoord and build on the advancements achieved over the last two seasons, however he has opted to reject Spurs’ interest in him.
In an interview with AD, Slot stated, “I have heard a lot about the interest of other clubs in me. I am grateful for the appreciation that this expresses, but my wish is to stay with Feyenoord and continue to build on the foundations that have been laid over the past two seasons”.
He highlighted that his discussions with Feyenoord were centered on a potential contract extension and reiterated that no transfer negotiations had taken place with any other teams.
Daniel Levy, the chairman of Tottenham, is currently back at the drawing board because he is having trouble luring top managerial talent to the team. Luis Enrique, a former manager of Barcelona and Spain, has also been mentioned in connection with the open role, although Spurs have had difficulty finding a high-profile alternative.
Tottenham fired Cristian Stellini, Antonio Conte’s assistant, in March after the two split ways. For the remainder of the season, Ryan Mason assumed management in an interim capacity; his final match in that capacity was set to take place against Leeds United. The club’s first objective right now is to find a qualified manager as soon as possible who can provide Tottenham stability and lead them in their future aspirations.
