Update on Ivan Toney’s betting charges

Published on:

Ivan Toney has pleaded guilty after the FA accused him of 262 betting-related offenses dating back as far as 2017.

The Daily Mail now reports that Toney has pleaded guilty to several accusations, although he is still fighting other allegations and intends to present his case in an FA hearing that will take place soon.

Toney is expected to be suspended from football for a significant amount of time as a result of his admissions, and it’s possible that the suspension will start before the current season is through.

Depending on how many charges he is ultimately found guilty of, Toney’s exact length of suspension from all football-related activities would vary.

After pleading guilty to 1260 offences in 2017, former midfielder Joey Barton was given an 18-month punishment; however, this was later reduced to 13 months after an appeal.

Andi Thanoj and Jay Rollins of Boston United were given five-month suspensions in 2021 as a result of their combined 757 bets.

In addition to having a significant negative effect on Brentford’s season, Toney’s likely suspension might also have a significant negative influence on the summer transfer market because several teams are known fans of the Bees forward.
