Wolves vs Liverpool Review
Liverpool managed to secure a 2-1 victory over Wolves in the Premier League, marking their 15th win in the last 16 encounters against Wolves. Wolves started off strong and put pressure on Liverpool, although Jean-Ricner Bellegarde missed a good opportunity. The main issue for the home team was Sam Johnstone’s mistakes with the ball at his feet, but Mario Lemina was able to take the ball from Alexis Mac Allister after one of those misplays, and the defense handled a corner that resulted from it.
As the half-hour mark neared, Liverpool began to find their rhythm, but the home defense remained resolute, with Luis Díaz having his shots blocked and Johnstone saving Trent Alexander-Arnold’s free-kick attempt. It seemed like Liverpool would score when they caught Wolves off guard in the 40th minute, as Andrew Robertson found Dominik Szoboszlai, but Johnstone made a quick save to deny him. However, Ibrahima Konaté managed to break the deadlock by heading in Diogo Jota’s cross, slipping the ball past Johnstone for his first-ever Premier League goal.
After halftime, Lemina was lucky that Mohamed Salah missed the target after he lost the ball to him in the box, especially since Wolves were already struggling to mount a comeback while Liverpool appeared at ease. Konaté’s attempt to clear the ball went awry, allowing Jørgen Strand Larsen to intercept it, leading to a series of mistakes from Liverpool that ended with Rayan Aït-Nouri equalizing for the hosts. However, Wolves’ celebrations were short-lived as Semedo fouled Jota, resulting in a penalty that Salah converted with precision.
Despite missed chances later on during the game, Liverpool remained strong and secured their fourth victory in all competitions, placing them at the top of the Premier League table. On the other hand, Wolves have only managed one win this season, which was in the Carabao Cup, and they currently sit at the bottom of the table in 20th place.
