Yunus Musah Joins AC Milan in €20 Million Deal from Valencia

AC Milan has secured the signing of USMNT midfielder Yunus Musah from Valencia in a deal worth €20 million, with an additional €1 million in add-ons.

The 20-year-old has signed a five-year contract with the Italian club and will wear the number 80 jersey. Musah’s acquisition follows the recent signing of fellow USMNT player Christian Pulisic from Chelsea, making him the second American to join Milan this transfer window.

Musah expressed a strong desire to join Milan despite interest from Premier League clubs such as West Ham United and Fulham. With an Italian passport, Musah’s arrival will not occupy a non-EU registration slot for Milan this season, a crucial aspect in the club’s transfer planning.

Having spent a year in Valencia’s B team, Yunus Musah has been a regular in their first team for the past three seasons after departing Arsenal in 2019. He made a total of 108 appearances for Valencia’s senior squad, contributing five goals during his time there. However, the second half of the 2022-23 season proved challenging for the midfielder as he fell out of favor with current coach Ruben Baraja.

Milan was persistent in their pursuit of Musah, making three offers before securing his signature. The club has been proactive in the transfer market this summer, having completed the signings of Marco Sportiello, Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Samuel Chukwueze, Tijiani Reijnders, Noah Okafor, and Pulisic.

With Brahim Diaz returning to Real Madrid after a loan spell at Milan, Musah’s arrival will add depth and talent to the squad as they prepare for another Champions League campaign following their fourth-placed finish in Serie A last season.

Yunus Musah, a promising talent and a 27-cap USA international, has showcased his skills on the global stage, starting all four of the USMNT’s 2022 World Cup matches and earning two CONCACAF Nations League titles since his international debut in November 2020.

Milan fans can expect to see Musah potentially make his debut in a friendly against local rivals Monza next Tuesday before the club’s final pre-season fixture against Etoile du Sahel on August 12, as they gear up for the new Serie A season.
