La Liga Roundup, Matchday 8
Matchday 8 of the 2025/26 La Liga season has come to an end, showcasing thrilling games, outstanding player displays, and unexpected results. Here is the La Liga roundup for this round of games.
Osasuna 2-1 Getafe
For the first time this season, Osasuna overturned a losing situation to secure a win, coming from behind to defeat Getafe 2-1 with a last-minute header by Alejandro Catena. Catena redirected García’s corner into the goal, giving the home team only their second victory in the last 13 head-to-head matches, while José Bordalás’ squad extended their recent poor run to four games without a win.
Oviedo 0-2 Levante
Carlos Álvarez’s impressive goal in the first half helped Levante secure only their second victory of the LaLiga season, defeating fellow promoted team Real Oviedo 2-0 at Estadio Carlos Tartiere. The home team’s sixth loss in eight games puts them right above the relegation zone in 17th place.
Girona 2-1 Valencia
Girona secured their first La Liga win of the season by defeating Valencia 2-1. Valencia has only managed to win two league away games in their last 26 matches (with 11 draws and 13 losses). Valencia’s defensive struggles are evident, having kept just two clean sheets in their last 10 games. Meanwhile, Girona ended their streak of seven winless matches at the start of the season with this victory, which remains a club record.

Athletic Bilbao 2-1 Mallorca
Athletic Bilbao secured their first win in seven matches by narrowly defeating RCD Mallorca 2-1 in La Liga. Mallorca, who are currently at the bottom of the standings, suffered the loss. With this victory, Ernesto Valverde’s team has moved up into the top eight of La Liga.
Real Madrid 3-1 Villarreal
Real Madrid achieved their eighth straight home win in La Liga, climbing to the top of the table with a 3-1 triumph over Villarreal. This win extended their unbeaten record against Villarreal to five matches (four wins and one draw), while Marcelino’s side had their three-game winning streak in the league snapped.

Alaves 3-1 Elche
Deportivo Alavés ended Elche’s undefeated run at the start of the season by defeating them 3-1 in La Liga. This means the home team has lost only one of their last eight home matches (with 4 wins and 3 draws). Consequently, Elche failed to match the record for the longest unbeaten streak since their promotion to La Liga.
Sevilla 4-1 Barcelona
Sevilla secured their first home La Liga win of the season by defeating Barcelona 4-1, ending Barcelona’s 15-game unbeaten streak on the road. Adams added a late injury-time goal to seal the victory, marking Sevilla’s first La Liga win against Barcelona since October 2015 (with 4 draws and 15 losses in between). This also represents Barcelona’s first league defeat in their last 10 visits to Seville (previously 6 wins and 3 draws).

Real Sociedad 0-1 Rayo Vallecano
Pacha scored his first La Liga goal for Rayo Vallecano, securing a 1-0 victory over Real Sociedad at the Reale Arena. This surprising result has pushed La Real into the relegation zone. Sociedad have now been defeated in five of their last six league games, putting their coach Sergio Francisco under significant pressure.
Espanyol 1-2 Betis
Real Betis secured all three points with a second-half comeback during their away match against RCD Espanyol, extending their unbeaten streak in all competitions to six games. The home team suffered a 2-1 defeat, marking their fourth consecutive La Liga match without a win. Betis believed they had secured their fourth consecutive head-to-head victory, but a penalty was awarded against them in the ninth minute of stoppage time after VAR detected a handball. Puado stepped up to take the penalty but missed, leaving Espanyol in ninth place, three points behind Betis, who sit fourth.
Celta Vigo 1-1 Atletico Madrid
Atlético Madrid’s streak of consecutive away victories at Celta de Vigo was halted at five as the 10-man Rojiblancos were held to a 1-1 draw at Estadio de Balaídos. Celta had scored exactly one goal in each of their last six league matches, and unfortunately for them, this pattern continued as their quest for a first league win of the season stretches to eight games. Despite this, Os Celestes remain 16th, two spots above the relegation zone, while Atlético move up three places to fifth.
