Ligue 1 Roundup, Matchday 3
The third matchday of the 2025/26 Ligue 1 season has recently ended, featuring exciting games and outstanding performances. Below is the Ligue 1 roundup from this round of games.
Lens 3-1 Brest
Following a red card shown to goalkeeper Radosław Majecki, Lens rallied from behind to defeat Brest 3-1 in Ligue 1, marking their fourth straight head-to-head victory over Les Pirates. The win was confirmed in stoppage time when Thomasson converted Saud Abdulhamid’s cutback into the bottom corner, securing back-to-back wins for the home team as a strong comeback after their opening day loss.
Lorient 1-7 Lille
Lille secured a 7-1 victory over Lorient at the Stade du Moustoir, with a flurry of late goals against Les Merlus helping the Mastiffs achieve their best start to a Ligue 1 season since their title-winning campaign in 2020/21. Lille’s seventh goal capped off an incredible day for the Mastiffs, propelling them to third place in the league table.

Nantes 1-0 Auxerre
Nantes recovered from back-to-back losses to get their Ligue 1 campaign underway by beating AJ Auxerre 1-0 at Stade de la Beaujoire. With this result, both teams now hold a record of one win and two losses. While Nantes enjoy their first points of the season, Auxerre’s initial victory on the opening matchday is now behind them as they aim to recover from two straight defeats in their upcoming game.
Toulouse 3-6 PSG
Toulouse allowed their first goals of the season during a 6-3 home loss in Ligue 1 against the current French champions, Paris Saint-Germain. The visitors scored in their 12th straight away match. This win ended the hosts’ unbeaten streak (4 wins, 2 draws), though Toulouse probably won’t be the last team defeated by the UEFA Champions League holders this season.

Angers 1-1 Rennes
Rennes extended their unbeaten streak in competitive head-to-head matches to six games (5 wins, 1 draw) by earning a 1-1 draw against Angers SCO at the Stade Raymond Kopa in Ligue 1. The visitors will be relieved to bounce back from their 4-0 defeat to Lorient in the Brittany derby on Matchday 2, despite not getting the desired result this time.
Paris FC 3-2 Metz
Paris FC achieved their first Ligue 1 win in 46 years by defeating Metz 3-2 in a back-and-forth match at Stade Jean-Bouin, ending their streak of losses at the start of the season. This victory marks an important milestone for Paris, who will be thrilled to earn their first three points after a lengthy absence from top-tier French football. On the other hand, Metz manager Stephane Le Mignan will have much to consider following his team’s third consecutive defeat in their opening three Ligue 1 games.
Monaco 3-2 Strasbourg
A last-minute goal in the 96th minute by substitute Takumi Minamino secured a dramatic 3-2 victory for AS Monaco against RC Strasbourg Alsace. This latest win at Stade Louis II extends Monaco’s unbeaten streak to 10 league games (9 wins, 1 draw). With two wins from their first three matches, Monaco has started the season strongly, aiming to improve on last year’s third-place finish. Although Strasbourg suffered the loss, their confidence should stay strong since they share the same record as Monaco this season (2 wins, 1 loss).

Le Havre 3-1 OGC Nice
Le Havre overcame their two initial defeats in the Ligue 1 season by winning 3-1 at home against OGC Nice, breaking a streak of three consecutive head-to-head losses and continuing Nice’s streak of 12 away games without a clean sheet. Both teams now share a record of one win and two losses this season. Additionally, both teams have scored in each of Le Havre’s last nine matches, with this being only the third game in that sequence to result in a victory.
Lyon 1-0 Marseille
In the 88th minute, Leonardo Balerdi scored an own goal that led to Marseille’s 1-0 loss to Lyon in the Choc des Olympiques. This victory marked only Lyon’s second win in the last seven head-to-head encounters. With this result, Les Gones join Paris Saint-Germain as the only teams with full points after three rounds, and they have now gone 18 league games without a draw. Meanwhile, Marseille move to 10th place following their second defeat in three matches this season.
