Ligue 1 Roundup, Matchday 5
Matchday 5 of the 2025/26 Ligue 1 season has just finished, featuring exciting games and outstanding displays. Below is the Ligue 1 roundup from this round of games.
Lyon 1-0 Angers
Lyon climbed to third place in Ligue 1 following a hard-earned 1-0 win over Angers, marking their eighth victory in the last nine home league matches. Meanwhile, Angers suffered their seventh consecutive away defeat against Lyon, bringing their total to six losses in their last nine league away games against any team.

Nantes 2-2 Rennes
Nantes staged an impressive comeback from a 2-0 deficit to earn a draw against Rennes in a Breton Derby that had two very different halves at the Stade de la Beaujoire. When the final whistle blew, there were truly no winners. The late twist prevented Rennes from moving into the top five, and although Nantes gained an additional point, their poor start to the season persisted, with the Canaris winning just one of their first five games (1 win, 1 draw, 3 losses).
Brest 4-1 OGC Nice
Romain Del Castillo’s two early goals propelled Brest to their first victory of the 2025/26 Ligue 1 season, as they convincingly defeated OGC Nice 4-1 at the Stade Francis-Le Blé. This tough loss marks Nice’s third league defeat in five games (with two wins), coming just before their UEFA Europa League opener against Roma.
Lens 3-0 Lille
Lens secured only their second home win in 11 head-to-head matches by beating rivals Lille 3-0 in the Derby du Nord, halting Les Dogues’ unbeaten run at the start of the Ligue 1 season. Bruno Génésio’s team had the chance to achieve four top-division victories in their first five games for the first time since the 1952/53 season, but their three-match winning streak was snapped on a disappointing evening for Les Dogues.
Paris FC 2-3 Strasbourg
Strasbourg climbed into the top four of Ligue 1 by defeating Paris FC 3-2 in an exciting five-goal match at Stade Jean-Bouin. Strasbourg managed to secure just their fifth victory against newly-promoted teams in their last 19 away games (3 draws, 11 losses) since rejoining the top division in the 2017/18 season. On the other hand, Paris FC have demonstrated signs that they can handle the challenges of Ligue 1, even though they have lost three of their first five matches (winning two).

Monaco 5-2 Metz
AS Monaco remain unbeaten in their last 11 home games (10 wins, 1 draw) after Ansu Fati was brought on at halftime and helped lead Les Monégasques to a 5-2 victory over bottom-ranked Metz at Stade Louis II. This marks Monaco’s third consecutive Ligue 1 win, moving Adi Hütter’s team up to first place in the standings, easing the disappointment of a heavy UEFA Champions League loss to Club Brugge last week.

Le Havre 1-1 Lorient
Although Le Havre conceded in their 15th consecutive home match, they managed to fight back and secure a draw against FC Lorient in Ligue 1. Ultimately, neither team succeeded in earning the crucial three points to improve their slow starts to the season, as both currently have four points.
Auxerre 1-0 Toulouse
Auxerre got back to winning in Ligue 1 with a narrow 1-0 home win over Toulouse, handing the Violets their third consecutive loss. Auxerre now share the same number of points as Toulouse, who have failed to earn any points since their first two victories and will need to rethink their strategy.
Marseille 1-0 PSG
Marseille secured their seventh consecutive Ligue 1 home victory for the first time in over a decade by defeating Paris Saint-Germain 1-0, ending the French and European champions’ perfect start to the season. The match concluded with a heated incident as Roberto De Zerbi was sent off after arguing with referee Jérôme Brisard. Despite this, Marseille maintained their lead and climbed to sixth place following their first win in the last 10 league encounters of Le Classique.
