Antoine Griezmann Opens Up On Facing Messi In The 2022 World Cup Final

After his country’s side qualified for the World Cup final, France’s Antoine Griezmann said that facing Lionel Messi would be a “totally different proposition.”

Theo Hernandez and Randal Kolo Muani scored for France in their semi-final win, which stopped Morocco’s incredible run and sent Les Bleus to their second straight World Cup final. After winning the World Cup in Russia in 2018, Didier Deschamps’ team might become the first group to retain the trophy since Brazil in 1962.

Only Germany has been in the tournament’s final more frequently than Messi’s Argentina, who defeated Croatia on Tuesday to secure their place in a sixth World Cup final.

As Argentina’s leading World Cup goal scorer, Messi has surpassed Gabriel Batistuta in Qatar. If he plays on Sunday, he would also set the record for most World Cup appearances ever.

Griezmann recognized La Albiceleste will be difficult to stop, especially considering the World Cup final versus France may be Messi’s final chance to lift the World Cup trophy.

“Any team with Messi in is a totally different proposition,” Griezmann told reporters at his post-match news conference.

“All of the matches we have seen Argentina play, we know how they play – they are difficult.

“They seem to be on top form, there isn’t only Messi – they have a strong side around him.

“We know it is going to be a tough game and they are going to have the support of the crowd.

“We will get back to working tomorrow and see how we can hurt them, we will be well prepared.”
