Arsenal vs PSG Review
Ousmane Dembélé’s early goal gave PSG a 1-0 win over Arsenal in the first leg of their Champions League semi-final, ending the Gunners’ impressive 17-match unbeaten streak at home in European tournaments. This match featured two teams that have often fallen short in the UCL, but it was PSG, making their fourth European semi-final appearance in six years, who took the lead just four minutes in. Dembélé scored after a brilliant combination with Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, firing a precise left-footed shot that hit the post and went in, leaving the Emirates Stadium crowd in shock. This marked Dembélé’s 25th goal of the year and his 11th contribution in this season’s competition for PSG.

The Gunners were having difficulty handling the pressure from Luis Enrique’s team, with David Raya stepping up to block a shot from Kvaratskhelia and later making an impressive one-handed save against Désiré Doué. Arsenal began to find their rhythm towards the end of the first half, although they didn’t manage to seriously challenge Gianluigi Donnarumma. Just before halftime, however, the Italian goalkeeper made a great one-handed save to deny Gabriel Martinelli.

Arsenal believed they had equalized just two minutes into the second half when Mikel Merino scored with a brilliant header from Declan Rice’s free-kick, but the goal was disallowed for offside. Despite this setback, it energized Mikel Arteta’s squad, leading to Donnarumma making another excellent save to stop Leandro Trossard’s powerful shot. Everything seemed to be going well for the visitors until an unexpected turn occurred when Dembélé had to leave the field due to an injury and was substituted by Bradley Barcola.

Barcola aimed to make an immediate impact after coming off the bench, setting up João Neves, but the Portuguese midfielder shot well over the bar. However, Barcola continued to push and nearly scored himself following a beautiful sequence of PSG play, but his angled attempt narrowly missed the far post. Gonçalo Ramos then tried to take control of the situation, but his unconventional toe-punt shot hit the crossbar.

In the end, Dembélé’s goal was the decisive factor in London, marking only the second victory for the French champions in their last five matches across all competitions. This loss also ended Arsenal’s 12-match unbeaten streak, leaving them with a lot to accomplish in the French capital in the second leg if they hope to reach their first UCL final in 19 years.
