Barcelona vs Real Betis Review
Barcelona‘s streak of nine straight league wins ended with a 1-1 draw at home against Real Betis, marking the first time Los Verdiblancos avoided defeat in an away match against Barcelona since December 2021. Energized by Real Madrid’s unexpected loss to Valencia, Barcelona started strong, taking the lead in just seven minutes thanks to Gavi. The former Betis academy player celebrated modestly against his childhood club after scoring with a low shot into the bottom corner from Ferran Torres’ pass.

However, Gavi’s first La Liga goal since August 2023 only gave Barcelona a slight advantage for 10 minutes before Natan equalized with a powerful header from a corner taken by Giovani Lo Celso. Natan’s first goal in La Liga did little to ease the pressure on Barcelona, as Torres narrowly missed a prime opportunity, and Adrián made a crucial save against Lamine Yamal while Betis fought hard to withstand the attack. Adrián was called into action again early in the second half, successfully blocking a left-footed shot from Jules Kounde at his near post. Gavi then had a powerful shot that deflected just past Adrián’s right post, as Hansi Flick’s team continued to seek a lead.

Hansi Flick brought on several substitutes in the second half, including Raphinha and Fermín López, with the latter having a late attempt saved by Adrián. Shortly after, Wojciech Szczęsny had to make a rare save to deflect Natan’s ambitious long-range shot. Although Los Verdiblancos didn’t secure a dramatic win, they were pleased with a draw that extended their unbeaten streak to seven league matches. Betis climbed to fifth place, while Barça missed the opportunity to increase their lead over Real Madrid to six points, instead going four points ahead and maintaining their unbeaten record in 2025.
